Vanessa cardui
This butterfly can be found almost anywhere and is raised in schools to explain about the metamorphosis.
The caterpillars are raised on artificial diet, this makes it easy for teachers to show the children.
 
I raise the caterpillars on hollyhock, malva sylvestri or sunflowers.
For a healthier stock, rearing in sleeves directly on the plants is the best, but artificial diet is a lot easier and gives very good results.
